Mr. Keith Gordon Brantley, age 82, a resident of 289 N. 7th Street, Aurora, NC died Wednesday November 23, 2011 at UHS Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday November 25, 2011 at the Aurora United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Tim Ware and Rev. Robert “Bob” Cayton. Burial will follow in the Whitehurst Cemetery of Aurora. Buck Williamson, Carl Cayton, Ken Miller, Richard D’Elia, Freeman Edwards, Kevin Bonner and Butch Coe will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Thompson, Charles McDonald, Mel Pressley and John Hooker. Mr. Brantley was born in Beaufort County on January 11, 1929 son of the late George Ernest Brantley and the late Minnie Elizabeth Brantley. He was a graduate of Aurora High School and married the former Sallie P. Hollowell on September 13, 1953 who survives. Mr. Brantley was owner and operator of Keith Brantley Service Station in Aurora and retired in 1989. Mr. Brantley served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 9492, the American Legion and was a volunteer with Aurora Fire & Rescue for many years. Surviving along with Mr. Brantley’s wife Sallie of the home is a brother in law: Malcolm Rowe of Aurora and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Zelda Brantley and Pauline B. Rowe. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM Friday until the funeral hour at the church and at other times at the home.
